My name is Elke Grolig and I am a specialist Relationship Counsellor and Psychosexual Therapist (MSc) trained at the Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships in London, a world leading centre for research and training in working with the couple relationship.
Before coming to the UK I had a long standing career in Germany as a professional within the psychosocial field. While working with clients suffering emotional distress I developed a particular interest in adult couple functioning and the impact this has not only on a couple's well being, but also on families involved.
As a consequence I decided to focus on helping couples and individuals experiencing healthy and satisfying relationships and retrained as a Couples/Relationship and Psychosexual Therapist.
I trained at the Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships (TCCR), an operational unit of the Tavistock Institute of Medical Psychology. As well as running a private practice I also work for TCCR as a Visiting Clinician. As a member of the British Society of Couple Psychotherapists and Counsellors, I am also part of the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) committee.
Working with a Counsellor you can trust
As crucial as it is to make sure your counsellor or therapist is properly qualified and she/he has sufficient expertise in working with issues presented, it is equally important that you feel safe with them and can trust them. After all, you are going to disclose some of your most private and intimate feelings and thoughts to them. Most likely you will experience some emotionally difficult moments in the course of counselling; it is particulary at those times when you need to feel confident with and well contained by your therapist.
Keep in mind that not every therapist will suit your needs and, on an emotional level, might be the right one for you: take your time when looking for a counsellor or therapist and try a session with them before committing to ongoing work.
