How we work together
As part of any counselling work we take a look at what is going on for you in your relationship, and what happens between you and your partner when things get difficult. It is my responsibility to provide an emotionally safe, confidential space to help you work through these challenges.
The Spaces of Relationship Counselling & Psychosexual Therapy
Relationship Counselling & Psychosexual Therapy are talking therapies that take place in a calm and restorative space, allowing you to be heard and feel safe discussing things from your own perspective.
We manage this by taking a look at what is going on for you in your relationship and what happens between you and your partner when things get difficult. Together we explore some of the underlying issues causing stress and dissatisfaction in your relationship.
To better understand and eventually overcome our difficulties it may be helpful to explore early attachment patterns and think about how these translate into feelings and behaviour in a current relationship; emotional strengths and vulnerabilities are, to some extent, considered as being consequences of our early emotional relationship experiences.
It is important for the success of any therapy to allow some exploration of past events, as this can help us better understand the particular challenges you've been exposed to and that are having an impact on your emotional wellbeing now.
Exploration & Exercises in Psychosexual Therapy
In addition, Psychosexual Therapy uses a combination of psychodynamic exploration and specific exercises for you to complete in the privacy of your home. The use of this dual approach - exploration & exercises - allows me to address both body and mind.
In order for us to assess where you are in the therapeutic process at a given point in time and discuss how to proceed, I offer regular review sessions, allowing us to make further decisions and planning. This applies to all formats of counselling and therapy I offer.
