How long will it take?
A number of personal and external factors need to be taken into account when making a decision about length of treatment. Sometimes a limited number of sessions can already have a positive impact on your relationship and help shift things towards the better.
"How long will it take?" is usually one of the first questions asked when enquiring about counselling and psychotherapy. A number of personal and external factors play a role in answering that, as do your particular issues. These all need to be taken into account when making a decision about length of treatment.
Depending on the outcome of your initial assessment, issues you would like to work on and your time limits, I offer both short-term and long-term treatment.
Brief Solution Focused Therapy
Sometimes a limited number of sessions can have a positive impact on your relationship and shift things towards the better. In these situations Brief Solution Focused Therapy focuses on the problem in the here and now and seeks to find a solution through making sense of the core conflict. If short-term work is the method of choice, you should expect attendance for 6 - 12 sessions.
To achieve good and lasting results with more complex issues you have to allow a bit more time. After an initial assessment I will let you know what I think might be the best approach for helping your relationship and we can discuss how you feel about this. Should we agree to work together, we will then make a decision about the best way forward, to achieve good and lasting results.
